There are some exciting new projects in South Acton:
Residents Fitness Centre: The aim is to convert a previous curry take-away into an `on your doorstep` fitness centre offering exercise equipment and drop-in health sessions for residents of the estate. South Acton Service Map: This easy to read guide pulls together information and contact details for different services available to local residents (both public sector services and services provided by local voluntary organisations) STOP PRESS STOP PRESS GOOD NEWS Planning Permission has been granted for the building to be used as a |Fitness Centre, the next stage is get the Refurbishment started. Stop Press Good news. Further progress referbishment has started new shop front will be installed by Christmas.
Estate Disability Audit: In June a group of residents with mobility problems together with two disability access experts- Adrian Cave of ECVS and Mark Crouch of Ealing Centre for Independent Living � did a survey of disability access on the estate. The detailed report and recommendations is now available and will be presented to the next meeting of the South Acton Service Improvement Group
Living Spaces- Funding has been awarded from the national programme for a new seating area and landscaping on the estate near to Berrymede School For details of any of these projects or other South Acton issues contact the South Acton Neighbourhood Co-ordinator at [email protected] South Acton Service Improvement Group. More good news with the completion of the Open Space Project. A Launch Party is planned, in the Shape of a Bar-B-Que late July. Watch this space for more details.
South Acton Service Improvement Group
The aim of SASIG is to bring together residents and local service providers from a range of agencies such as the Police,Primary Care Trust, Housing and Environmental Services as well as Acton Community Forum,Ealing Refugee Forum, Action Acton and local schools, to discuss service delivery on an ongoing basis.
SASIG discusses issues such as crime and drugs, estate improvements, local health projects and Environmental issues (e.g dangerous trees, street lighting and pest control).
SASIG also feeds onto the South Acton Strategic Board which co-ordinates the major development plan for the estate.
SASIG meetings are held every 2-3 months and take place at the Change Base, Bollo Bridge Road.

South Acton Co-ordinator
The Co-ordinator, Eddie Capone, works with local residents, community groups and service providers to improve services on the South Acton estate.
The Co-ordinator is actively involved in: Implementing agreed NIF projects and encouraging residents to join the NIF Panel.
Assisting residents to participate in neighbourhood renewal schemes and supporting consultation by local service organisations.
In the first year the Co-ordinator has: Organised walkabouts with residents and Housing officers.
Identified with residents dangerous trees on the estate and arranged with LB Ealing to tackle these.
Co-ordinate a survey for an estate seating scheme.
Organised meetings between residents and Police on community safety issues.
Working with Acton Community Forum to launch a new South Acton Network. |
